Roving
Roving... Batting... Fleece... what's the difference?
While we tend to use the term "roving" for all wool fleece the difference is the "shape".
Wool fleece is the wool fiber; washed, cleaned, dyed and combed.
Roving is wool fleece that has been drawn out and slightly twisted, especially preparatory to spinning.
Bat (or batting) is the same basic material but has been cut off the carder in the shape of a mat.
For needle felting there is no difference.
Spinners tend to prefer roving due to its better consistency. You can take different sections of roving and it will be all the same; not so much with bats.
