Applique Wool
We carry wool from Heavens to Betsy, The Wool Studio and Dorr Mill and other sources. Our hand-dyed wool uses Dorr wool as its base fabric.
Wool used for applique should be washed first unless it is hand dyed as the dyeing process has already fulled the wool.
Fulling wool isn't the same as felting wool. Fulling wool merely tightens up the weave so it's less likely to unravel when cut into fine strips; the wool will shrink a bit when fulled. Felted wool is created by washing in hot water and using heavy agitation; this causes severe shrinkage and can make the fabric wavy at the edges. A light wash in warm water followed by either air drying or a short dry cycle on low/medium heat in the dryer is all you need to full your wool!
Quantities are limited and when a wool is sold out it's often gone for good! Make sure to buy enough for your project!
